'Food & Wine' Honors Catalan's Wine

The Houston Chronicle's Alison cook reviews Burns Bar-B-Q & Catering (8307 De Priest) and Taverna Winery & Restaurant (12820 Texas 105 West, Conroe) and blogs about the new Chocolata, while the Drive-Thru Gourmet considers the new Penguin Swirl at Baskin-Robbins. chron.com ... The Houston Press' Robb Walsh reviews Bob's Steak & Chop House (1801 Post Oak Blvd.), while Paul Galvani stops by Bamboo House (540 Waugh). houstonpress.com ... Both of the Wolfgang Puck Express restaurants in the Houston area have closed, Cleverley's Newsletter cleverleysnewsletter.com reports: Carillon Center on Westheimer near Beltway 8 and Sugar Land. The phones are disconnected and the Texas restaurants have been removed from WolfgangPuck.com. The Houston restaurant opened in April 2004 and Sugar Land opened less than a year ago in June 2006. In a press release, the company said the eateries "did not meet our sales expectations." ... The Houston Business Journal reviews the Carillon Center's Santos The Taste of Mexico. ... Blogger Food in Houston foodinhouston.blogspot.com takes a road trip and winds up raving about Austin's Wink. "Last weekend I took a food trip to Austin to investigate an awful rumor -- that fine dining in Austin may now be more progressive than fine dining in Houston. I have sad news to report. That rumor may be true," the blog opines.
